What do we do to encourage Brain Activity?
We constantly are creating and implementing activities that encourage our residents with forms of dementia to use their brain! Our Activities Director, Tonya, is an amazing leader at WMC Lexington who prides herself on being an outlet for our residents and their brain health.
The best activities we implement for our resident’s brain health and activity are:
Puzzles
Puzzles are an amazing way to have the residents use their hands, challenge their brains, and bring stimulation to memory association. There are a variety of different puzzles–crossword, jigsaw, sudoku, and many more. It is a great way to engage the brain as well as generate new brain cells!
Exercise
From going on walks to bowling, this is an amazing way to continue to strengthen the brain of a loved one who is struggling with memory loss. Increased blood flow to the brain encourages new brain cell growth, even in a simple stroll outside!
Music
We spend time as a community making and listening to music. Whether we have someone local come to play and sing for the group or they are creating it themselves, it is amazing for stimulating memory. The residents have to remember a beat, lyrics, and potentially a past memory if the song is one they have heard previously. We always encourage local participation, as well as individual.
We offer plenty of other daily activities for our residents to engage with others, grow their brain, and encourage memories! If you are interested in joining an activity to see all the fun, please contact us today!
