Why are brain health activities important for your loved one with dementia?

We have been implementing creative brain health activities for our residents because it is so important for those with dementia to exercise their brains each and every day. Cognitive tasks that challenge our residents’ brains have been proven to help improve their quality of life. We strive to create customized cognitive activities because each resident should have an opportunity to improve in their unique needs.

Here are a few reasons why brain health activities are important for residents with dementia:

·   Can help slow the progression of the disease

·   Helps residents stay active and engaged

·   Reduces dementia-related sleeping problems

·   Reduces many common dementia behaviors

·   Helps to improve attitude and communication skills

·   Helps residents stay involved with others

Residents with dementia experience many changes in their behavior and ability to perform certain tasks. Participating in brain-health activities helps to control and reduce some of those behaviors including agitation, anger, and confusion. These activities help residents stay engaged with others who experience the same day-to-day challenges. Residents with dementia need to participate in these activities to ensure they are still making cognitive progress while reducing the impact of dementia on their lives.
