Nourish Your Soul: Creative Exploration

Our Nourish program emphasizes the importance of nourishing your mind, body, and soul. Today, we’ll explore creativity as a means of nourishing your soul.

Creative pursuits take on a variety of themes, including drawing, painting, writing, playing an instrument, knitting, dancing, embroidery, journaling, architecture, engineering, baking, and photography, to name a few.

No matter what skill level a person has, staying connected with our hobbies is an excellent way to exercise our minds and nourish our souls. The creative process can also be a powerful tool for expression of thought and feeling. Creativity goes hand-in-hand with well-being and can help to positively impact a person’s mental health. Some of the benefits of engaging in creative activity include:

  • Decreased symptoms of anxiety and depression,

  • Reduction of stress,

  • Increase in positive emotions,

  • Improved immune system function.

Choosing to exercise your creative muscles can really have a positive impact on your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. The more often you are able to engage with your creative pursuits, the better.

Engaging with your creativity can also be an excellent conversation starter! Perhaps you can do your hobbies in a group, such as a writing club, knitting circle, or photography group. Even if you practice them on your own, you could get together with a group of creative friends to share with them about your creative process.

Whether stress reduction or increased positivity, or something in between, much good can come from creative expression, including the beauty you can share with others through your art!
