Is it the right time for Memory Care?

This can often be one of the most difficult decisions to make when deciding to present the idea of putting your loved one in a Memory Care community. When something acute happens, like a car accident, the natural reaction is to jump into creating a plan quickly. The same can not be said when an age-related cognitive decline occurs. A lot of times, we do not realize the severity or believe that the best plan of action is for us to place that loved one in a specialized community. We want to reassure you that our team has that game plan that fits best for you and your loved one when that decline begins to occur.

3 signs to be aware of when wondering if it is the right time to look into a Memory Care Community:

When being a caregiver, is a 24/7 occupation. It requires constant care, love, and time. Without a short-term stay program or constant in-home team, it can become almost impossible to sustain that care for your loved one. If you’re approaching, or have already reached, a point where caregiving is all-consuming, it’s time to consider memory care.

When you begin noticing a decline in your loved one's health, that can be a sign of needing to look into a memory care community. We’ve discussed the specific signs of dementia or a form of it but we know that other signs can occur. Signs like insomnia, rapid weight loss, lack of food in the fridge, and evidence of medication not being taken could be moments causing a rapid decline in your loved one. A memory care community will be available to watch and be available 24/7 in preventing these signs from rapid progressing.

A final sign we suggest is to trust your instincts. We know that we all have those moments where we think to ourselves “I need to prepare for this” and that will happen. Make sure you are trusting yourself and those moments or thoughts. Being proactive will in return create a better lifestyle for you and your loved one suffering with a form of dementia. We are here for you and want to help you during this time of making a decision that’s the best fit for your loved one.

If you are experiencing any of these signs or additional moments with your loved one where you need support, please contact our team. We would love to sit and discuss options for you and your family.
